About

The International Lacanian Society is a global community of Lacanian psychoanalysts and those engaged with Lacanian thought. We come from the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa, reflecting the diverse and international presence of psychoanalysis today. The Society was founded to bring people together across borders to exchange ideas, share experiences, and strengthen the practice of Lacanian psychoanalysis in different cultural and clinical contexts.

The Society is built on the principles of collectivity and inclusivity. It has non-hierarchical structure, no appointed authorities or key figures; instead, we are Lacanian psychoanalysts volunteering our time and committed to promoting inclusivity through talks, congresses, and cafés, maintaining a global dialogue where Lacanians can actively contribute. All activity charges are used to sustain the Society’s platform and activities, covering essential costs such as website upkeep and publicity. This non-hierarchical structure prevents concentrations of authority and fosters an atmosphere of collectivity and inclusivity in which everyone’s voice can be heard and respected, regardless of background, experience, or geographic location.

The Society organises international congresses, talks, and psychoanalytic cafés, each designed to create spaces for dialogue and growth. In congresses, participants can choose a topic and present research and clinical work, contributing to the ongoing development of Lacanian theory and practice. Talks offer opportunities for focused study on particular themes, while psychoanalytic cafés provide an open and informal setting where ideas can be exchanged freely. These formats ensure that knowledge is shared in multiple ways, making participation accessible both to experienced practitioners and to those newly approaching Lacanian thought.

Participation in all activities – whether presenting, chairing sessions, or attending – is open to anyone who follows the simple application and registration process provided on our website.

At its heart, we are a community organisation, a welcoming meeting point for dialogue across languages, cultures, and disciplines. By cultivating inclusivity, we ensure that psychoanalysis remains alive and relevant, enriched by the contributions of a truly global community.

Through our work, we aim to promote not only the vitality of Lacanian psychoanalysis but also meaningful exchanges about subjectivity, society, and the challenges of contemporary life.
